Viagra Cancer Killing Men?

Viagra Shown by Harvard Study to Raise Melanoma Risks 84%

Higher Melanoma Risks? Sunburn or Viagra?

Twenty years ago the number of women with melanoma skin cancer greatly exceeded that of men. There were around 60% more women with the deadly cancer. Today that number has completely reversed.

Could PDE5 Inhibitors For ED Cause Men’s Melanoma Rates to Skyrocket?

In 2014 the National Institute of Health estimates that more than twice as many men will die of melanoma skin cancer than women. How else could it be possible for such a drastic flip in the statistics to take place in such a short time? What other drugs have only men taken to see such a drastic change? Did men suddenly become melanoma magnets? Has melanoma mutated into a man hating disease?

A good look at the spread of Viagra use compared to the spread of men with melanoma from Harvard Medical School that was published in JAMA, the Journal of American Medical Association, found that Viagra may be responsible for more than an 84% increase in men’s melanoma risks.

What about Cialis and Levitra? Do they cause cancer too?

The melanoma doctors and health professionals who performed the study say it is not the drug that matters, but rather, it is what the drug is doing to your body. Researchers discovered the erectile dysfunction treatment while using the drugs for heart issues. Since the FDA approved use of sildenafil in 1998, they also approved vardenafil hydrochloride (Levitra) and tadalafil (Cialis) in 2003. PDE5 inhibitor use has now exploded across the globe. It is not the name of the drugs and it is not necessarily the exact chemical makeup of the drug that is causing the problems.

Though very difficult to read, the following is excerpted from the JAMA, Harvard Medical School publication, Sildenafil Use and Increased Risk of Incident Melanoma in US Men.

“We did not have the information on other PDE5A inhibitors because neither vardenafil nor tadalafil had been approved by the US Food and Drug Administration in 2000. The observed association between sildenafil use and melanoma might be partly attributed to the later use of vardenafil and tadalafil among recent sildenafil users. A longer clearance time of other PDE5A inhibitors could have augmented the observed HR for sildenafil. However, this would not materially jeopardize our study implications for PDE5A inhibitors.”

What about just a couple blue pills?

What could end up being the most horrific part of the JAMA study for Pfizer and other ED drug makers is the following. The study found that recent users of Viagra were actually less likely to have melanoma than those who stopped taking it 2 or more years before the diagnosis. The study suggests that there may even be a cumulative effect to the melanoma risk increase.

Does Viagra Really Cause Cancer?

The study from Harvard Medical School, and published in JAMA, included over 25,000 men. It took into account many factors, including family history and past UV exposure. That study shows an 84% increase in melanoma risks for men who took Pfizer’s Viagra/ Sildenafil products. Five years after Viagra released their product, other variants, such as Cialis and Levitra came onto the market to offer more refined drug “performance.”

As the use of these life changing stimulation pills has spread like a virus around the globe, so has a very terrible and deadly cancer. Melanoma rates have grown at alarming rates recently, but what makes Viagra seem like it may be the culprit is the fact that women’s rate of melanoma has actually gone down.

Who knows? Maybe, it really is just a man hating cancer, but viagra lawsuits are lining up to battle it out. If you have melanoma and you took Viagra before being diagnosed, you may end up eligible for substantial compensation from an industry that profits 5 billion dollars legally each year and does 100 billion in black market sales.
